Short Breaks

While summer is a wonderful time to visit Les Jincheres the spring and autumn have their own special pleasures. Spring is coloured and scented with a profusion of wild flowers and for bird watchers there is the return of the migrating birds for their annual visit. During 2001 we watched a hen harrier and her mate raise their young nearby. It was stunning to see them swoop over the open fields in search of prey.

The autumn colours in the woods are superb and there is an abundance of mushrooms to be discovered by those interested in mycology, there are hundreds of edible and non-edible fungi in the woods and fields, it is always exciting discovering a perfect cep in the woods. Brambling, gathering elderberries, sloes or walnuts to be made into jams or gins or served with cheese gives a lovely focus for a walk.
